this past month brought ANTi zine #11, some small garden wins, lots of visitors, and then a sinus infection… so i’ve been mostly sleeping and just doing the bare minimum around the house. the garden has been watered by the rain only… but tilling continues, bike commuting continues, and overall my creative mind keeps chugging through the struggle of living in a world that prioritizes domination over life. take my hand, i hope you’ll come along with me…

patreon mail club received some hand-stamped stickers made form home=grown okra, star confetti made with scrap paper that would’ve otherwise been trash, a new postcard design, ANTi zine, and some sanrio decorative paper. ANTi zine also includes a collage kit of a bunch of different images that i’ve taken over the years. if anyone makes a collage using these please send it my way, i would love to see it!!

i finally got to planning a local casual bike ride group! i made a super simple website for it that i will for sure beef up later. see it here. if you’re interested in the bike rides i’ll host in orlando, send an email that says “subscribe” to [email protected] :)

i’ve also finally updated the ANTi zine website. click here to look at it. the front page is updated with issue 11 and the open call is live. i need to add to archive, which maybe i’ll do tonight… if not soon.

⋆｡ﾟ garden updates ⋆ ﾟ

half of the front yard is tilled and compost is down. next is to till up the other side and build the chicken wire fence around the perimeter so ensure doggies can’t get to the yard. i also will probably add lime and coffee grounds in the next week. lime is an amendment for sandy soils, it helps the pH balance return to a more neutral stage (sandy soils are typically acidic, which can be good for certain plants like blueberries). i get the coffee grounds from two local coffee shops, which will provide nitrogen to the soil.

i am trying to build up the soil, to create a rich humus from the sand, instead of buying a bunch of soil. although, it is likely i may supplement with some raised beds under the tree where there are likely roots- making it impossible for me to till up.

my pumpkin vine has been growing for a couple months now but i finally have a big ol’ gourd growing. the baby is getting bigger every day, it’s happening so quickly. i am so excited to watch it grow.

i the yard-long beans are kicking still, and now i’ve got some seedlings growing. radishes, carrots, and kale. i’m hoping that they will do well despite the heat. i always feel like i’m guessing whenever i do anything in the garden even though i worked on a farm for a season and had a successful garden in my own right before i moved to this new house. idk maybe it’s just one of those ‘imposter syndrome’ symptoms.

the watermelons i grew from my own saved seed were small and underripe so i made the rinds into some spicy pickles. they tasted so good, and it feels great to prevent food waste.

☁︎｡⋆ misc updates ☾ ﾟ⋆

i’ve begun working at a farmers market and it has been so far so good. i feel a little intimidated but i know i fit into the team just fine. i’ve met some cool people so far and look forward to learning more about everyone. like every space we occupy, there’s things that happen that i do NOT agree with, but living under capitalism, i guess i’d rather help a local farm sell it’s inventory than do most other things…

otherwise as you can see i am trying to build up the food plot at home. i am intimidated still. i wish i were a little more committed, like getting up early every day to work on it. but i also am aware i live with neighbors all around and i don’t want to wake them with loud tiller noises or me dropping something big, etc. but, i am doing a little bit more each week.

i’m still thinking about the riso each day. another intimidating project. if i weren’t working full time and juggling my art and food plot then it would be easier to focus on, obviously. i am hoping once i have the plot established- fencing, tilling, irrigation- i am hoping i can streamline some processes and i know some friends want to help and benefit from the plot as well. so, i will then have more time to dedicate to the printer. i dream of printing ANTi on it someday, along with other projects i believe in.
