Away we go!
When I went on my fieldwork trip in 2023, my carry-on bag and personal item were full. Thoroughly jammed with everything under the sun. So I was a bit surprised when, this year, my suitcase had extra room. Surely I must be forgetting something, right? But no, the difference was that the last trip was in December, and this one is in August. My suitcase has much smaller clothes in it! It’s ended up full anyway, but not so much I’m sitting on it to close it this time.

My flight leaves in about four hours. The Saturday focus group seems not to be happening, as I have gotten zero messages, but I have a friend who’s willing to come on another day, and can bring a friend as well. This isn’t what I envisioned, but I had two participants in Berlin as well, so it’s in line with the work I’ve already done. I’m not sure yet what day this will be, but we’ll work it out.
In addition to meeting my supervisors on Monday, I’ll also be meeting a member of the Wellcome Collection’s Exhibitions team. And thanks to some quick work by my supervisor and the disability services office at Leicester, I’ll have an interpreter for these! I’m also making arrangements to meet up with a curator for the Design and Disability exhibition at the V&A.

But first, I have to board a flight in three hours. Hopefully I will sleep, and after that - time to enter the UK!
