A frequent comment across many of my circles is how tired we are of living in “interesting” or intensely historical times. So far, 2025 is showing few signs of being calm or uninteresting. Yet, life goes on. Summer provides openings for us to connect with one another, find a way to both speak up against injustices and take time to celebrate (Happy Pride!), and also… eat ice cream with friends. -Eira

# Upcoming Grant Deadlines
Several grant programs that I track for this newsletter have been defunded. This will have grave effects on archives and humanities programs across the country. My heart goes out to all of the federal employees who have been put on leave or terminated from federal funding agencies. Your work is so important, and know that our profession stands in solidarity with you.

## Remaining Funding Opportunities:
## National Historical Publications & Records Commission
The [Archival Projects](https://www.archives.gov/nhprc/announcement/archival.html) program funds inventorying and assessing archival records and collection processing plans. Draft due August 15.
## Society of American Archivists
The SAA Foundation's[ National Disaster Recovery Fund for Archives (NDRFA)](https://www2.archivists.org/groups/saa-foundation-board-of-directors/national-disaster-recovery-fund-for-archives) provides critical assistance to communities experiencing climate disasters. Applications received on a rolling basis. Grants are typically awarded within 7-10 business days of applying.
## National Endowment for the Humanities
The [Preservation and Access Education and Training Grants ](https://www.neh.gov/grants/preservation/preservation-and-access-education-and-training)program supports projects that develop and implement education programs for professionals who preserve and provide access to humanities collections. Due June 17.
# Farewell to my Co-editor
For over a year, my dear friend, colleague, and comrade Jess Farrell has helped write this newsletter. This is the last newsletter that will have Jess as a co-editor for now. Jess’s work in helping me brainstorm topics for the newsletter, drafting copy, tracking down grants, and helping me stick to sending out this newsletter monthly has been a game changer in working together.

If corporate personhood has been a legal doctrine for over a century (longer depending on your historical perspective) then we are far overdue for greater recognition of the legal rights of nature.
💰 [Income inequality undermines support for higher minimum wages](https://www.apa.org/news/press/releases/2025/05/income-inequality-weaken-wage-support) - A fascinating and disconcerting study with implications for the way organizers might frame their messaging around economic justice organizing.
💼 [Dismissed by DEI: Trump’s Purge Made Black Women With Stable Federal Jobs an “Easy Target”](https://www.propublica.org/article/trump-dei-black-women-minorities-careers-jobs-dismissed) - ProPublica’s investigation is an excellent overview of how vitally important the federal workforce has been for leveling the playing field for Black workers, and the devastating consequences of anti-DEI right-wing attacks.
