Nitzavim-Vayeilech

It is the 22nd of Elul and the parsha of the week is Nitzavim-Vayeilech. Since the number of weeks per jewish year varies and this is a shorter one, we’ve had some of these double-parsha weeks.

Rosh Hashana is next week somehow. I have a link to a JVP-produced link-set of online services. If you need it let me know and I’ll pass it along, but I don’t know if it’s meant to be publicly shared or not so I won’t be including it here.

I am as previously stated not doing any organized teshuvah self-searching because demanding that on schedule is bad for my brain. That being said, this tweet rang true for me. Maybe for you too.

i need to be able to remind myself constantly that: (1) sometimes things need to be torn down and (2) people need to be given the opportunity to make teshuvah sometimes i need to remember one more than the other, which is why i need to take both with me.

I sure have been mired in something or other lately, but I’m fine. I’m inclined to blame the massive smoke plume in my area, or ongoing pandemic stress. So guess where (Jewishly) that stress is going…I’m gonna build a balcony sukkah!

ok according to halachipedia / rabbi google, a sukkah has to be 7x7x10 tefachim, or 28x28x40 inches, which means one definitely fits on my balcony

I did a quick google about this and found a post on the Velveteen Rabbi blog about her sukkah from 2016, pictured below:

If she can throw something together, so can I, you know? I can get materials from someone I know locally who’s ridding her yard of bamboo, and tie it together using the boundaries of the balcony as a guide, or something. Just gotta do 2.5 walls and a roof and call it a day.

The pet of the week is Princess, picture here on my friend Jaz’s lap. The dog does not belong to Jaz but to their roommate who is also Jewish.

Shabbat Shalom everybody! I hope you have a good week.
