Lech-Lecha
This week’s parsha is lech lecha. My brain is still on some shit due to world events and job-related stress, so it’s once again mostly a disorganized compilation of tweets this week. I am so tired. In 9 days or so i am going to drive an hour ouside the city to spend three days/two nights in a cabin by myself and i am so excited. gonna listen to some trees, look at a river, spin some yarn in the middle of nowhere. I was already planning to try and daven multiple times daily, as daily davening at home is a thing I am really bad at establishing the habit for but maybe I can handle three days of it somewhere else; then I realized i accidentally set myself up nicely for hitbodedut so maybe that’s worth a try too.
You too can learn a six stranded braid for challah. (Yes, it’s a tweet, but if i embed it all four diagrams show up here and that’s just too many. Also, I sadly cannot use this wisdom due to dietary restrictions but you probably can.)
My friend brin’s been working on a siddur that uses traditional liturgy through a nonbinary lens, and recently finished and published their Lekhe Dodeti. You may not think you deserve a cookie for it, but I definitely think you do.
The talented Andy posted about his household’s singalong event (“an evening of sing-alongs, anarchist trivia, cute outfits, buildings & grounds show and tell, and no attention whatsoever paid to any political rigamarole that might or might not be happening outside!”) for Tuesday, when you JUST MIGHT need a distraction. The followup tweet to this one was thanking someone for yiddish translation help, so I feel like yiddish is likely to occur.
The Jewish Pet of the Week this week is Miss Toes, pet of queer trans jewish artist Hayden Stern. Pppppaaaawwwwwsssssss.
And on that lovely note, see you next week!
