It's been another crazy month in this increasingly crazy year. I got back from the JoCo Cruise, after all the fun I could possibly handle and I was glad to get back to work. I had excellent book events in Southern California, particularly at a small independent bookshop in Riverside called Cellar Door. It was good to be back in the Inland Empire with something to show for my time there, and to share my work with the local science fiction book club.
The Book of the Unnamed Midwife was Reddit's book of the month for March, which led to a lively discussion and a
smashing AMA with some great questions. My book was included in a Huffington Post story on the
future of reproductive freedom; a hot topic as we all prepare for the Handmaid's Tale... either on TV or in real life. I guess we'll see.
I saw "Get Out" three times and I
can't stop talking about it. See it if you can, while it's still in theaters and making barrels of money.
I'm in the final stages of writing my first horror novel these days. I find that far more comforting than reading the news. I'm moving on to The Book of Flora this summer.
I want to leave you with
a story I wrote from my own life. It's about a terrible thing I did as a teenager, and why I had to do it.
I think about all the people I used to be. Writing stories like these is the best way I know to bring them home.
With love and stories,
Meg
