Alright, so it isn't February anymore. It's the shortest month of the year, so I took a little license.
The biggest news this month was that
The Book of Etta finally launched! It was only a few months after the re-release of Midwife, but it still seemed like a very long time on my end of things. I am so glad that it's out there and the story is moving on. More than anything, I love opening my second book and seeing "Also by Meg Elison" printed on the detail page. That's an incredible feeling.
It's been a month for that feeling, though. I held events at Pegasus Books in Berkeley, and at Borderlands and the Booksmith at San Francisco. Each time I was humbled and tickled to death by the crowds that showed up, the questions that they asked, and the feeling that this is my real actual life and I get to talk about my books and sign autographs as my job. Thank you to everyone who makes that possible.
Coming up, I have events scheduled in San Diego, Los Angeles, and Riverside in Southern California all in the month of March. I'm excited to give readings in and around my old stomping grounds and at wonderful places like the
Mysterious Galaxy Bookstore, which is the kind of place I could see myself secretly making into my hideout in a
Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler scenario. Watch
megelison.com or my
Facebook page for upcoming event details.
March is also my lucky month for a couple of other reasons. The Book of the Unnamed Midwife has been chosen as the
selection of the month for r/books on Reddit. If you're looking for some lively discussion on my award-winning debut novel, you will surely find it there.
I'm also feeling very privileged to say that I'm taking my husband of ten years on the
JoCo Cruise this year, because there's nowhere I'd rather spend our vacation than on a boat full of nerds. Thank you again to everyone who has bought a copy of Midwife; you've made this possible as well.
I'm hard at work on a horror novel (surprise!). I'm sketching the third and final Road to Nowhere book and I plan to have it turned in my publisher by June. I'm reading a lot about story structure, particularly from experts on screenwriting. No reason in particular...
That's all for now! Find ways to make art and be kind and love people, if you can. I'm finding my ways every day.
Live long and prosper,
Meg
