social (email) updates - march 2025
Well hi.
You’re receiving this email because you’ve attended, at some point since they started in February 2024, either one of the social (media) meetups, or the social (media) mixer at the start of this year. Hi! There’s some stuff at the bottom of this email for you. But first, the what and the why.
As the community around these events has grown, I created a LinkedIn group for alumni of the events. But not everyone has, or regularly uses, LinkedIn. And posts there are subject to the algorithm’s blessings.
And so, this monthly-or-less newsletter. It will follow the same monthly-or-less cadence as the meetups. Its main function will be to offer up alumni spots to future meetups, and to let you know about upcoming events. It might do a little more than that down the line. Perhaps a classified section. But never more often. We all get enough email already.
On which note, if you would prefer not to receive these emails, please do unsubscribe. There’s a link at the bottom of the email just for this task.
Preamble done, now on to the reason for this newsletter!
UPCOMING MEETUPS
The monthly-ish, 20-person meetup is next happening on Wednesday 19th March, in Fitzrovia. The wonderful folk at base are sponsoring, with Alisdair Jones speaking on their behalf, and we’ll be hearing from both Julia Herd & Tom Martin as well. The end all-room-panel is titled “The future of creative work: what’s left for humans?“. The usual 2 last minute spots are up for grabs, so if this sounds like your cup of tea, let me know :)
THE MIXER IS BACK!
I was blown away by the mixer event at the start of the year, and so we’re doing it again! It will be on Thursday 8th May, back at the Oxford Market (near Oxford Circus). In January we had 76 folk in the room, we’ll aim at a similar number again this time. More details forthcoming, including speakers and sponsor, but for now I’d love to get a sense of numbers from you all. I’m still not quite on board with using a ticketing platform, and so do just drop me a line if you’d be interested to come down.
OTHER STUFF / CLASSIFIEDS
Past (and regular) sponsors LucidLink are hosting a free event on Thursday in Soho that looks quite excellent. I’ll be there. Maybe see some of you in what looks to be a bar I’m yet to have visted in Soho.
I’m interested to talk to vendors and systems integrators in the AI video tools / creative studio space at the moment. I’d love any recommendations or introductions, broad or niche.
I’m also interested to talk to potential sponsors. We have 20-person meetups in April and May available for sponsorship for the price of a bar-tab. The mixer is already sponsored (more on that next time!).
This feels like it’d be a good space for STUFF. Like, jobs or opportunities from the community. If you’ve got something that it’d be helpful to pop here next time round, hit me up :)
This email has been brought to you without emojis, but with two smiley emoticons, and six exclamation marks.
Until next time!
Kev x
NB - there is no “subscribe” button for this email, or for the LinkedIn group. These are closed groups for past attendees of the events. It’s something to do with what Russell is getting at here. And to do with being an invite-only members club of the great, good and interesting of our industry. I love recommendations for good people who would benefit from the event, and benefit it in turn - but the only way in on this is an invitation. Except if you forward it, obvs.
