Think your site is secure?
Jim Stewart will be appearing on Sky News' Switzer program TONIGHT at 7:40pm, talking about the importance of HTTPS.

HTTPS is an acronym for Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, and is an additional layer of security situated between a website and visitor. HTTPS is designed to stop so called 'man-in-the-middle' attacks that can happen. Without HTTPS, all sensitive information sent between a site and its visitor, such as passwords, account details, log-ins and form information, can be intercepted and read by attackers. When HTTPS is enabled, all information submitted to or sent from the website is encrypted, and later decrypted by your computer when received.

While technically your site does not need HTTPS, it adds great value to the user experience - something Google places a strong emphasis on. If you own a website that conducts transactions or collects visitor data via forms (including vital lead generation forms), your visitors may be in for a rude shock come October - when Google will begin to display 'Not Secure' warning signs in browser address bars for sites that are not on HTTPS.

The American Department of Commerce found that 84% of poll respondents held concerns over online shopping and transactions due to security fears - do you want to send potential customers running with their tail between their legs when they see a red warning sign highlighting your site's lack of security?

If you are unable to tune in to tonight's Switzer program, we will be in touch shortly after the broadcast with a link to the recording.
