| News Corp: Break up Google |
But are they biting the hand that feeds them?
In an outstanding display of hypocrisy, this week News Corp pleaded with the ACCC’s inquiry into the dominance of big digital players to break up Google as it has become too powerful. Coming from a company that has enjoyed an almost monopolistic delivery of news for decades, the irony wasn’t missed by most. Instead of analysing their own reasons for lost revenue, such as sticking with an outdated business model or asking if their own content just isn’t Google-worthy, they turn to a third party for intervention. No matter the size of your business you should always ask if your products or services are relevant, why Google should rank you, and measure your return on ad spend. Otherwise you may be put to pasture like News Corp fears. |
