I replaced WordPress with an AI agent

Our new site runs on Astro with an agent as webmaster. One question built a landing page in 15 minutes, and the pain point it found surprised me.

I've made my first video in a while. You can watch it here. It's about eight minutes.

The short version is that StewArt Media is off WordPress. The new site runs on Astro, and Hermes, our AI agent, is the webmaster. When I want a page changed, I tell the agent. I don't log in to anything.

I've dreaded logging in to WordPress for years. I do it rarely now, so every time I have to work out where things live, which plugin controls what, and whether an update will break something. Client sites are worse. We usually inherit WordPress builds from other companies, and all the baggage comes with them.

In the video I show the agent building a landing page. I'd just worked through a few video concepts with it, and I asked one question: based on everything you know about our business, what would be a perfect 15-second spot targeting the main pain points of WordPress users?

I didn't give it any copy. It went off, did the research and came back with something I didn't expect. I assumed the main pain point would be security. It found it was getting updates done.

That matches what we've seen for years. On some WordPress sites, even new page titles could take us a week, just because of the way the system works. A new landing page took longer.

This one took 10 to 15 minutes. In that time the agent wrote the copy, built the page, embedded the video and tested it on mobile and desktop, in Chrome and Safari. The page still loads fast.

I didn't need a long prompt either. Prompting matters, but when an agent already knows your business, one question is enough for the jobs it should understand.

A couple of other things from the rebuild:

  • The old site was about 1,000 pages. We kept the useful, evergreen articles, consolidated the rest and got it down to fewer than 200.
  • I saw 100 on the PageSpeed tests. I know plenty of good WordPress builders can get there, but I've never had that on one of our sites before.

Machines should handle maintenance drudgery like this. People keep the judgement. Nothing goes live on our site until I've reviewed it.

If you want the technical detail, here's how the site runs.

If you're on WordPress and tired of waiting for updates, reply with your website and the change that's been sitting there too long. We can move you to a site an agent looks after, including SEO and health checks, so you don't have to log in to edit a page again. It doesn't have to be Hermes, either. ChatGPT and Claude Code can do the job too.
