On a May day's wedding

It’s the morning (rather, noon) after my only sister’s wedding. I’m sitting here on my father’s couch, wondering how time flew by like that. It helps that it’s pouring really heavily right now, unlike yesterday’s gruelling heat that didn’t let up but given we did want to do many things within the day, it was good the sun shone brightly on my sister’s special day.

Mini polaroids but methinks this cam was too old, such newtro vibes

I realise I didn’t mention my ma in any part of the wedding script, and a part of me wondered aghast if I forgot about her in my preparation, or if anyone forgot about her, but that thought went away quickly because if anything, having family and friends gather for my sister’s wedding, knowing they see her in us, every day, I’m sure my ma would have been so happy for her.

That she met a person who looks at her like he lucked out in life’s lottery - proof from mobile photos that I took throughout the day, and also from my dad’s speech which went on for 6 minutes and almost five case studies of past life karmic relationships and at the beginning of the fifth story, it ended very abruptly with “ok, my time’s up,” as I crumpled my fist in signal to my dad. What a family of comedians we are.

You GPT’d?

Planning a wedding as a very small manpower resource-stretched family was challenging but our friend Chatty really shone for me. Here were a couple of prompts that let me feel a little better about what I prepared for my sister.

Prompt screen of text from English to Mandarin
My entire script was in English, but there were family friends who only spoke Mandarin and while I couldn’t be the best bilingual Singaporean, I wanted to still acknowledge their care

I do wonder about the phrase “重要时刻” but my spoken Mandarin is rustybasic I didn’t know if I could override Chatty that perhaps, it should just simply be “婚宴”.

Prompt screen of text about auspicious sayings for chinese wedding tea ceremony
The takeaway here for many of us was: “holy, there is hanyu pinyin”. I did impress the tea support lady and my Aussie based cousins :)

I had some tea-specific favourites: 手捧甜茶,福满人家 & 甜茶入口,良缘入心. Try it the next time you get assigned this role!

What else, in the land of Medhā?

I recently started a new job 🎉 and the past few weeks was me cycling through the familiar (been a while) feelings of social anxiety 😣 (hello new colleagues), uncertainty 😫 (can or not?), cautious optimism 🙇🏻‍♀️ (ok, can), and unlearning what I learnt for the last 4.5 years 🐣 (wah, damn bloody gaslit life). I also hold to the gentle knowledge that I shifted from a strong ESFJ to an ISFJ, and I am all the better for it.

If you needed an emoji sign from me, here’s a randomly intuited one: 🫛 Go forth for the coming week.
