Hello! Welcome to my newsletter
I just want to start by extending a huge thank-you to all of you that have subscribed. I recently deactivated my Instagram because the app was sucking out my soul, destroying my attention span, and leeching my creativity. I found that the most of the connections I was making weren’t actually meaningful, and I think Instagram thrives on this false sense of connection.
I am hoping that this newsletter will be a more personal way to share the things that are percolating in my brain, and talk about how those thoughts show up through my art (even if those thoughts are BIRD and they show up as paintings of birds).
Currently on the easel
I’ve been working on this commission of a male and female resplendent quetzal for a neighbour. It is finally done…
I started gathering reference photos for this painting at the beginning of January and it took me almost a full month just to compose the painting. This is probably why my face contorts into a strange expression when people ask me how long a painting took. There is a lot of behind-the-scenes work that goes in even before the brush hits the canvas. Not including that pre-study and composition work, this painting took me about 26 hours to complete. Recent and recurrent inspiration
I can’t stop revisiting Jason Limon’s art. There is something whimsical and soft about it, but it has the perfect touch of darkness that repeatedly draws me in. Their overall technical skill is incredible too. This one especially blows my mind.
Thank you so much for supporting me and my creative endeavour. I appreciate all of you and I am looking forward to sharing in this new (old school) format.
As always, check out my website for more art and to see what’s available for purchase. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if you want some art for your walls.
