Hello and welcome back to the week in links! The weather has been perfect in the northeast for almost two weeks, and I’m in the best mood. I spent all of last week in New York City recording something secret and so fun. I had the best time. I saw many of my dear friends, visited two dog parks, and my hotel had dimmers on every single light, which felt like a rare blessing.

The first few recommendations this week, as perhaps expected, are NYC based. But then there are plenty of regular links beneath that. Do not fear.

I hope everyone had a Happy Halloweekend! On to the links:

  1. Every morning I was in NYC, because I am nothing if not a creature of habit and because I cannot really eat anything before recordings, I got a delicious smoothie at Madhufalla. I don’t think this place has an insta or anything, but it whipped.

  2. I bought these stupid velcro pumas for my trip because I HATE tying my shoes and am not good at it. I liked them! They look like bowling shoes.

  3. Kelsey’s special BITE OF THE WEEK (a new exciting feature!!) is the ribeye for two at CHAMBERS in NYC. We went for a work dinner and it was one of the best bites of steak I’ve ever had.

  4. I had a Great GREAT margarita at Jora in Long Island City. Everything else we ate was also excllent.

  5. God I love stupid rich people drama!!!!

  6. If you read one thing this week, let it be Mahmoud Khalil on his time in ICE Detention and the existential threat facing higher education

  7. Friend of the newsletter (me), Fred alerted me to this cool site walkipedia, which pulls wikipedia articles about places within a short walk from you! It’s so fun! create your own guided tour!

  8. Finally an attempt to answer a question that annoys everyone: if the AI data centers need so much water, why do they keep building them in the damn desert?

  9. I read May We Feed The King by Rebecca Perry, which is nominated for the Man Booker and found it so creative and fun. Quick book! Would be great for a plane imo.

  10. I loved this essay by Fran Hoepfner about trying to get over her aversion to gore in screen!

  11. Yet again, my ban on buying fish things has yielded another beautiful fish thing. This necklace was sent to me by friend of the newsletter (me), Lucy and LOOK AT IT

  1. More fish stuff I’m not allowed to buy! Friend of the newsletter (me) Josh Gondleman sent me these ADORABLE fish night-lights from Millers Art Glass.

  1. Huge week for Bobby-Lindsey fans: they went on Las Culturistas.

  2. I love reading about parenting:

The choices you have are to simply lie to your child about what is happening right up until the moment a needle presents itself, or try to reason with them about the benefits of not getting sick (or getting everyone else in the family, at school, or in the neighborhood sick). There is also bribery. No matter the choice, you know with absolute certainty it will all dissolve into the most devastating sobs and accusatory stares, and you will be haunted by your child's primal screams and their burgeoning taste for vengeance

  1. If you stole 1.5 tons of frozen snow crab in Philadelphia last week, I’m available all the time!! Invite me to eat the crab!!!!

The only thing I contributed to last week is a Defector Book Club about Incidents Around the House, which tbh scared the shit out of me.
