Now and Again 006: Silverleaf sunflowers

Prior to Hurricane Katrina, there were no sunflowers on Grand Isle

Now and Again is a weekly pictorial. If you like today’s issue, please share it with someone you love. If you'd like a print of any of my photos, please email me directly.
I like when the sunflowers droop,
happy things hanging their heads

Tall and narrow shouldered, unassuming
Here and beautiful
never in the way

From the Times-Picayune, 2019:

The chaos caused by Hurricane Katrina's winds also blew a little good fortune toward Grand Isle, Louisiana rewarding passersby two years later with a breathtaking mile-long patch of sunflowers along the beach levee. Tourism officials have a theory that a camp owner along the stretch of beach near the town water tower had a bird feeder containing sunflower seed which was tossed by the high winds and landed on the levee. The sunflowers, which were never there before, appeared in the aftermath of Katrina and keep reseeding themselves and creeping steadily further down the levee.
