On Blogging More
It’s been over a month since my last newsletter, as I’ve blown my personal goal of publishing once every fortnight.
It’s OK, but not OK. I always feel better by dumping my brain, by laying out my thoughts. So why am I resistant to making a regular habit out of writing?
By contrast, the writer Cory Doctorow is an obsessive blogger, with 20+ years of output collected on his singular blog that serves as a kind of second brain, fueling his current thought with seemingly-endless perspective of his past. He calls this his Memex method in a recent post.
One specific sentence stood out to me:
I deeply regret the years in which I waited for inspiration to strike before writing…because of all the practice I missed and the habits I waited too long to develop.
After I read it, I felt compelled to write my first personal blog post in years. More a lamentation than a treatise, I posted it as a reminder that all good habits have a start. 5 minutes of writing, however bland, is better than none.
So here’s to more.
