El Lagarto
El Lagarto
Sus brazos, como míos
El codo curvo, como mío
Cara, mira el sol
En la mañana, él está despacio
Espera por el luz de dia
Le veo en todas partes:
Los arboles
La tierra
Una roca
Mis sueños
Azul, blanco, gris
Rapido, muy rapido, en la tarde
Mi amigo, el lagarto
(looking at lizards and practicing my spanish. Very open to grammar lessons/suggestions/corrections)

I really appreciated those who sent me podcast recommendations <3 keep ‘em coming!
Things have gotten real crazy over here with the heat, and this coming week we are taking a break from the field. The good news is, we are getting close to the end of our collecting! These past few weeks have been peak fruiting for the trees, but it seems that by August not much will be happening. We have two plants (Isocoma acradenia and Allenrolfea occidentalis) that mighhhtt do something at the end of the summer, so we will keep an eye on those and see.
Last Wednesday I got to do some “outreach” as a guest speaker for a summer program hosted by the LGBTQ center. Basically, I got to spend half an hour chatting with folks about all the different trees in their yard (the lemon needs a ton of water, the mesquite barely any, of course), the random plants they see around town, and anything else plant-related that people wanted to share. They had a lot to say! It’s fun to see what different people notice, how much they notice, and to just open up this space for sharing observations, both in town and out in the desert.
Life has definitely been more challenging lately, the hardest part being that it is really tricky find ways to get consistant exercise when it feels like a struggle even to be outside in the heat. I feel very fortunate to have air conditioning and to be able to go to the pool and to start work early when it still feels somewhat comfortable outside.
