Saturdays Are for the Birds
Greetings, travelers.
Housekeeping
Before we begin, a small bit of housekeeping: all of the past issues of Errata Exist are now available on my website.
Previously these archives were available on Buttondown directly, but I wanted to give them a home on my own property and with more control over the styling. They’re available in both places for the time being, but I may decide to hide the Buttondown archives at some point.
I’ve also made some adjustments to the email configuration, which I’m hoping results in fewer of these emails ending up in the spam folder.
Saturday Activities
I spent some time on Saturday polishing up a small tool that I wrote to streamline the production of my async standup notes for work. A few weeks ago I had ported this tool from PureScript over to Rust, and it was just missing a few minor touches before I could call it “done” for the foreseeable future. I wrote up a short devlog on it, if you’re interested in learning more.
Saturday evening my wife and I had some friends over to play board games. We ended up playing Wingspan, which has been sitting on our shelf—still in its shrink wrap—for the past year.
Wingspan is one of those games that can be be quite overwhelming when you’re learning it for the first time. The gameplay itself is rather straightforward, with each turn consisting of one of four possible actions that the player can take, but each action has a full two-page spread dedicated to it in the rulebook.
Once we had a decent enough handle on the rules and jumped into the game we picked it up pretty quickly. It’s just that initial dump of information that you have to get through.
The game is incredibly fun and seems to have a lot of depth in terms of strategy. Although I’ll admit my favorite part is just looking at the stunning illustrations on the cards:
That’s all I have for this issue. I’m still trying to get back in the swing of writing these.
This one in particular was an exercise in forcing myself to sit down and write something to help keep up some resemblance of a regular cadence.
Until next time,
Marshall
