Hi there, Matt here.
tl;dr: I’ve published the first installment of a new essay series on ethics for designers. You can read it here.
Four months ago, I started research on a series of essays on ethics. At the time, designers were debating on Twitter: if your company asks you to design something unethical, should you quit? The debate was driven by Facebook’s latest feature announcement, and opinion — at least, in my corner of the Twittersphere — was sharply divided.
Today, I’m proud to share the first essay in that series, which I’ve come to call Ethics for Designers.
I had no idea just how much the world would change in the 4 months it took me to write these essays. Ethics is an even more common topic in the news; it’s at the center of many debates in healthcare as countries make hard decisions about how to use their limited resources.
It’s an understatement to say, but ethics is more important today than it ever has been.
Even if you’re not a designer, this series has lots for you. I’ll be reviewing the history of many common ethical frameworks, and sharing practical ways to apply ethical thinking.
The essays will be published every two weeks. There are six of them. My hope is that this slow trickle of content will give you something to mark the time by.

Until next time, stay healthy, and keep reading.
