Suffering is optional

Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional

Pain and suffering are not synonymous. The first is a fact of life, the second is a response.

I might experience pain through rejection. It happens frequently. That's part of humanity.

Suffering takes place when I internalize rejection. That is, suffering is an optional side-effect of pain.

I'm sure there are amazing people who have undergone a great deal of suffering, but I'd argue not many.

  • Pain slows us down a finite amount,
  • Suffering slows us down as much as we let it.

Losing a job sucks. It means you might not have anything to do for a few weeks or months.

There's nothing you can do to change losing your job. But if you spiral, wallow, and suffer, you might do nothing for years .

Letting go, we omit suffering. Moving on, we make life a bit more fun.

We choose our adventure.
