When you are afraid to jinx it, but for the first time in a long time, the writing is going really well.
For years, I’ve been struggling with brain fog, exhaustion, health challenges, and just being kind of burned out, honestly.
I’d forgotten what it was like to want to write, as opposed to needing to write—to hit deadlines, to make a living, to do the thing. I couldn’t remember the last time I fell into flow state instead of forcing myself to chop each word out of the matrix like a foothold chopped in ice. Instead of waiting for inspiration, I had to go out and, to quote Jack London, get it with a club.
It worked, but it wasn’t easy—and pushing through brain fog to write is really something I do not recommend. It makes the editing process a lot more complicated when you’re chasing yourself in spirals while you write.
But lately, somehow, things have been a bit easier. It’s been annoying to have to do other things—chores, cooking, exercise—instead of spending all day tap tapping along. Flow state has been easier to achieve, and ideas have been volunteering instead of having to be hunted down and press-ganged.
You’re in the Navy now!
I wish I could bottle this. It’s a great feeling.
What’s causing it? I wish I knew. I’ve got a good meds balance going on, and I found some supplements that really seem to help with the brain fog, and I dunno. Maybe it’s just the circle of life.
In any case I’m going to enjoy it while it lasts. I’ve missed being in the zone. It’s been a while.
