Sekrit Projekt, and trying out this Notes thing.
Hey, folks,
So I alluded to a project I was working on that involved an NDA. I can tell you that it’s a novelette for a shared world anthology, and that it’s been delivered and accepted at this point, and I’m really looking forward to telling you more about it once the Seal is Broken.
As for social media—
I’m feeling pretty cautious about Substack in general, given the lack of content moderation and some of the other content providers of this platform, but I would be lying if I said I’m not interested in the discoverability aspects—or that I didn’t feel that muzzling myself on a platform that allows me to reach a couple thousand people with something more nuanced than a tweet isn’t actually beneficial to any of the causes I support.
It’s Omelas all the way down, and there’s basically no form of outreach that isn’t just as available to the bad actors as to the rest of us. (YouTube, I’m looking at you.)
But I have been doing a teeny bit of poking around in the Notes tab, and so far it’s… not horrible?
Notes (Substack informs me) is a space for users to share links, short posts, quotes, recommendations, etc. So I will at least be poking my head in there occasionally. And using it to recommend stuff, which they claim is the primary intended use.
Anyway, you can find me over there… occasionally. And of course paid subscribers to this newsletter or to above-basic tiers of my Patreon get access to a professionally-moderated, welcoming, friendly, low-volume Discord.
I’m kind of de-emphasizing social media in my life right now, frankly, but I do try to check in the Discord at least once a day.
That’s it for now: more real news soon, I hope!
How to join
Head to substack.com/notes or find the “Notes” tab in the Substack app. As a subscriber to Throwanotherbearinthecanoe Newsletter, you’ll automatically see my notes. Feel free to like, reply, or share them around!
You can also share notes of your own. I hope this becomes a space where every reader of Throwanotherbearinthecanoe Newsletter can share thoughts, ideas, and interesting quotes from the things we're reading on Substack and beyond.
If you encounter any issues, you can always refer to the Notes FAQ for assistance. Looking forward to seeing you there!
