Now it can be told...
Hello, apocalypse buddies.
I hope everybody is staying as safe as possible, and is bunkered down and resupplied for a long haul. We’re going to be at this for a while yet, I’m afraid, and it’s incumbent on all of us to take care of each other as much as possible.
I’ve been checking my local nextdoor forums once or twice a week, and stumbled across somebody looking for surplus garden plants to help landscape their new home on a budget. As it happens, this house came with a glorious flock of peonies and fairy nasturtiums, both of the which spread freely, so I have offered to dig up a few divisions and leave them a box for my neighbor for contactless pickup.
It’s very satisfying to do something randomly nice for somebody.
Speaking of nasturtiums, it’s been such a lovely cool spring here that they—and the daffodils—are not quite over yet. The tulips are about peaking, and the lilacs just thinking about blooming. We had a big cold snap the other night and the threat of snow, but it never got quite cold enough to take out the fruit blossoms, which is a relief. For local orcharders more than me, though I have hopes for my peach tree.
A bear got the birdfeeders the other night, so I am bringing the remaining ones inside at night. Which I should have been doing anyway but after four years I was a little cocky, I admit.
In actual news, though, I’m pleased to be able to announce that Spyglass has acquired rights to my short story “Covenant,” and attached the screenwriting team behind 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Hopefully there will be further updates on this topic, as time goes by.
Stay safe out there.
Best,
Bear
