An author who has been a casual friend for years DMed me the other day because their first book is coming out soon, and they wanted to know how to deal with internet mobs, brigading, and the lies that people inevitably tell about you.

(I know this is starting to sound like a Donald Trump sir story, but I promise this author never called me sir and did not have tears in their eyes. AFAIK.)

If you really must know, the actual practical difference between being an aspiring writer and a published writer is that you go from privately worrying that your work is rubbish to people openly telling you your work is rubbish
