Horse Stories 7
Summer is here with a vengeance, quite suddenly. It was 40 degrees last weekend. Today, it is over 90. The horse is in his barn, and my exercise for today was giving the garden a really good soaking before it got hot, and then a little additional remedial afternoon water for two roses I planted last month that were looking droopy. The birds are enjoying the bird bath enough that I'm having to clean and fill it twice a day, and I am avoiding doing my job by looking at MORE ROSES on the David Austin website.
Eventually, we will get the terrible dangerous walk in the front yard jackhammered and a new one put in (or possibly I will find the wherewithal to lay it myself!) and then there will be rose beds in the front yard too. So it's wise to plan ahead. :D
Or so I tell myself.
So I told you about the horse zooming on Monday. Wednesday, Ormr and I went for a fairly long solo trail ride, which is a challenging thing for horses to do. They are not huge fans of leaving all their friends and going off into the wilderness all by themselves to PROBABLY BE EATEN BY BEARS OR WILD TURKEYS OR PORCUPINES OR WHATEVER IT IS THAT EATS HORSES YOU DON'T KNOW THEY MIGHT EAT HORSES. But after several years of work he trusts me enough to brave the SCARY WILDERNESS and go on adventures, just us two, without fretting too terribly.
