Gatekeepers.
Hey folks,
I’ve been thinking a lot about the idea of “gatekeepers” and traditional publishing in the sense of agents and editors and publishers, and the idea that sort of floats around in the ether that the entire purpose of these people is to keep the deserving genius creator (me) from the attention of a audience that is no doubt desirous of my wit, wisdom, and mad narrative skillz.
Now, I’m a bit of a hybrid author myself (If you’re reading this, you’re part of the hybrid model that keeps me afloat, and thank you!) and there are definite benefits for any writer to having a direct line to readers and colleagues and aspiring writers, as it happens. There are also definite benefits to a trad publishing model, like somebody else handling delivery and fulfillment, and not owing my entire livelihood to the Amazon Gods.
