Book club post for Monday, January 2, 2023
I finished my first book of the New Year last night: Elizabeth Hand’s Hokuloa Road (Gift link to a thoughtful Washington Post review there) and it was really wonderful. These days, I find it so hard to focus on fiction that a novel that really pulls me along and gets the job done rather than feeling like homework is an absolute treasure. I skipped out on everything else I’m currently reading to finish it because it was a library book, and I don’t regret that at all.
Now Scott has snatched it and is also reading it as fast as possible before it has to be returned.
It’s not even a genre I’m particularly fond of, being a supernatural thriller with horror elements, but it’s so good I was entirely on board. And it was weirdly soothing to read a novel that actually acknowledged the existence of, you know, a global pandemic.
