Gabriele Gelatti

This week we are taking you on a journey up the Italian coast from Northern Tuscany into Liguria, a narrow region bordered by sea on one side and steep wooded mountains on the other.

Here the sea dominates, and the bright blue waters emit a smell of salt, while the sharp rocks lining the pebble beaches give off a tang of minerals. Looking out to sea you will discover fishing boats, luxury yachts and cruise liners.

Port of Genoa

Liguria is the third smallest region in Italy and is bordered to the west by France. It is best known for the Cinque Terre, the pretty town of Portofino, and the grand and gritty capital, Genoa. Genoa is the home of pesto sauce and has a history of being a hub for international trade and travel.

We wanted to discover what artisans worked in Liguria and first we meet with pebble mosaicist Gabriele Gelatti.
