Thousands signed an open letter demanding Mayor Michelle Wu's administration stop stalling on street safety, and a tearful Wu showed up to Gag's vigil at City Hall Plaza Thursday night to absorb it in person. New details from the crash investigation make the moment feel even rawer: the truck driver swerved around a turning car, hit Gag, and reportedly kept going for several blocks before stopping.
This is bigger than one tragic crash. Gag worked for the city's own transportation department — she was, in the cruelest possible irony, one of the people Boston pays to make streets safer. The letter, signed by roughly 2,300 residents plus thousands more supporters, accuses Wu of 18 months of "stalling and re-studying" already-designed, already-funded safety projects, and demands a permanent chief of streets, published construction timelines, and restored transportation funding that critics say got quietly cut from the budget. Wu's response — promising to "accelerate" projects and order a full design review of Tremont Street and other high-crash corridors — is the kind of pledge every mayor makes after a death like this. The real test is whether it survives past the next news cycle.

Healey wants Noah Kahan's help fighting scalpers.

Boston officers shot at during a Dorchester stop.
Rasiel Carbuccia, 20, allegedly opened fire on two Boston police officers Wednesday night with a ghost gun before fleeing through backyards; he was wanted on an outstanding assault warrant and had previously been found mentally incompetent in another case. Neither officer was hurt, but the cruiser's windshield took a bullet.
