A new project: overtourism data
It’s been a while, I know!
This is a quick one to let you know that I’ve started a new data project, with my dear friend Bernardo, this time focused on overtourism and its impact(s).
Being Italian and seeing our country more and more transformed into a sad playground, we started from there (but will go everywhere) - the project is a blog called “Citybreaking” (see what we did there??), our goal is purely informative: we try to quantify, with data that is available to us, how the excesses of this industry negatively change the fabric of a city, a place, a community.
We write in Italian and English and so far we published two posts:
one on the growth of Airbnbs in Florence (which is amongst the most “touristy“ cities you can think of) - English here, Italian here
one on the distribution of Airbnbs per host in a variety of Italian cities, to have a sense of “wealth distribution” - English here, Italian here
I/we hope you enjoy and engage. For every feedback and comment, let me/us know.
