Economic Surplus has undertaken a move to a simpler, less cluttered design. We hope our readers enjoy the revamp!
1. The Dismal Scientist - Accepting 2023 Submissions
The Marshall Society has opened submissions for the 2023 edition of its magazine, The Dismal Scientist! The Dismal Scientist has had a long-running history of featured contributions from prominent economists such as David Card, John Kay, Gregory Mankiw and Alvin Roth, in addition to contemporary Cambridge scholars, whether students or faculty. We are looking for contributions from Cambridge students, from any discipline, to continue this great tradition. If you’re interested, do apply here.
If you are interested in writing an article for the magazine, please outline an article concept (in 50 words or fewer) through the form above and we will reach out to you shortly. Please note that you will eventually be required to produce an article between 1,000 and 2,000 words on economic theory and/or current affairs in the summer.
We recommend referring to our 2021 edition for some idea of what past articles are like. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact our magazine editors Anna (yj342@cam.ac.uk) and Jonathan (jchl6@cam.ac.uk).
The deadline for submission is 5 March, 23:59 GMT. We look forward to reviewing your submissions!
2. Marshall’s Thoughts
This week’s Marshall Thoughts, “China’s Reopening: What are its Effects?” are written by Thomas Wang. In it, he describes the domestic and broader global impacts of China’s relaxation of Covid-19 policy. Read it here, at our Research Analyst team's newest repository of reports and thought-pieces.
