normalizing IT ALL & my garden of metaphors
Dear Community!
It’s here, we’ve made it. SPRING. All of this being said, I admit- I’ve been crawling veeeery sloooowly out of my winter cave…Who else is feeling sooo ready for warmer temps?!
How are we doing? Let me guess…It’s a mixed bag. Because hellooOooO it always is, isn’t it. Life is dynamic, complex, layered, rich and…a lot. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!
I was having a hard day last week, feeling the feels, thinking the thoughts…you know the drill. One thought was: What am I gonna write about in my newsletter this month!?….and there it was- my actual there & then, once known as here & now…I thought- Can we *for heavens sake* *for the love of light* please normalize hard days?!??! Let them be so okay. SO welcome. SO reasonable. There is nothing wrong with you for being challenged by being a human on earth. Ever. When people ask me the good ol “how are you” upon greeting, I often say “oh, its a lot, its the full spectrum as always” - I’m often met with a concerned look and perhaps an “oh no I hope you’re okay”- but really friends, I’m just being honest cuz in this incarnation I came out of the womb speaking my truth. Ask my mom ;)
YOU, my friend, are a miracle. You are the only being in the entire universe with your particular blend of personality, past experiences, gifts, perspectives, relationships…I honor your uniqueness, and all that which you experience. I relate to your wholeness from my own full spectrum, and pray that we all continue to collectively grow our ability to honor ourselves and each other, from our hearts. I’m so here for the journey, and here to grow and expand with you.
So, as I was saying, I was having a hard day. I let go of my “to do list” and turned toward my in the moment needs. We all have different resources that help us come back to our bodies and centers…one of my resources is: yardwork/gardening. After all the rain we’ve had in these last couple months my yard is abundant in weeds and ready for a thorough spring cleanup. Holy. Moly. I went outside and the moment I started pulling weeds, I felt completely different. I felt At Ease. Warm. Trusting. Moving my body, hands in the dirt, smelling the earth, feeling the plants in my hands and the warmer spring air on my skin, I melted. Tending to land, getting dirty, moving my body in this dynamic way…it feels like coming home.
As I worked away, the many vibrant and colorful metaphors growing in the garden came to life.
♡ The 4 season sacred cycle of birth growth death to begin all over again…such a reflection of our own inner seasons, phases and waves.
♡ Life/Self As Garden: Easy to become overgrown with weeds when not tended to.
♡ Different plants thrive in different environments. Make sure our different parts are receiving the nourishment they need from the people, places and experiences we surround ourselves with.
♡ There was one moment I tried pulling 3 weeds in one handful - none of which came out from the roots- though I was able to pull another metaphor. Slow down. One at a time. Firm and gentle at the same time.
Modern day is filled with endless stimulation, multitasking, taking on a lot at once. May we all find places, spaces, and activities that help us slow down, cultivate presence and help us feel the sun on our skin, dirt on our hands, and breath in our lungs.

and this month’s resources:
LEARN:
Luis Mojica is one of my favorite somatic educators. He explains things in a way that I personally can really understand. I recently moved through a 6 week course he offers to help folks navigate their own healing. It’s such a fantastic collection of information, practices, resources, that I just want to put it on blast to my whole community! I earn nothing from you signing up. If you do join the program, I’d love to receive an email from you to hear how it supports you! Click here to check out the course
EAT:
As our temps in LA (and many other places in the country) are still leaning CHILLY, here’s a warm yummy healthy breakfasty recipe that is a delightful companion for cold mornings. Sweet Potato Apple Breakfast Bake
LISTEN:
April playlist is on the more upbeat side of things…Helping us to get movin’ as this warming season opens up. Ready To Spring
