generational change, and links
A couple weeks ago I wrote about the 4B movement, and wondered aloud what a man could add to my life besides chaos and half the rent.
A reader responded: “As a correction on the 50% rent thing, almost all the women I know, including me, support their husbands financially.”
This is anecdotal but huge.
Until 1974 — only 50 years ago! — women weren’t even allowed to get their own credit cards. Now they’re often the breadwinners.
And 50 years ago, most women couldn’t afford to reject marriage and motherhood. Financially or socially.
As much as I rage about the patriarchy, I’ve probably had it 100 times easier than my mother did, and in hindsight I need to grant her a little more grace.
And as much as I applaud the 4B movement, I’m trying to imagine another 50 years of progress where maybe there won’t even be a need for such movements. Go get ‘em, Gen Alpha or whatever you’re called.
