In a few weeks I'm going to Spain for the first time, just because.
Because I can't remember the last time I left the country. Looking at my passport, I can't make any sense out of the stamps. It would be nice if people stamped that shit in order. I had Paddie for 10 years, and she's been dead for 3. So it has been at least 13 years.
Because I'm getting too comfortable sitting in this apartment.
Because taking care of other people's animals for weeks at a time while they go to other countries is fun, but maybe I should try living a little too.
Because if not now, when?
And because a friend told me exactly where to stay and sent me a detailed spreadsheet of all the things I should see and do, so I don't have to do a whole lot of planning. That is: I don't have to make many decisions — and worry that I made the wrong ones.
I was going to write about being nervous about traveling again, because I am so out of practice. But then I heard a woman running down the hallway screaming "MY DOG! MY DOG!" at the top of her lungs. Ten of us came out of our apartments but we can't find her and have no idea what the hell is going on. So I'm hoping this edible kicks in soon, and wishing I could get on that goddamn plane right now.
