📬 You've got mail: Welcome to Majorcord's regular newsletter.
Reading time: 572 words in approx. 3 minutes
Welcome to your first step in preparing your business for work-from-home!
Thank you for joining Majorcord's ongoing conversation with you - the security- and privacy-conscious, work-from-home business.
Why does Majorcord exist?
Because security and privacy is not only the responsibility of your IT department. As we work from home and self-service more, the ways we protect our customers and our business is changing. It's our job to be ready and resolve unexpected things which crop up.

What do you mean, protect our customers?
Small operations often don't know that they possess data that, if lost, would damage their business.
Imagine you are a graphic designer. You have a client for whom you're making wedding invitations. That means that you have:
- full names,
- home addresses,
- possibly phone numbers and email addresses.
Already you, the graphic designer, are subject to legal requirements to safeguard that customer data.
Being secure is profitable
Legal compliance aside, it's just good business - if the customer had a wedding and then had their identity stolen in the same week, they probably wouldn't be as keen on sending more clients your way.
How would a business get started?
As a subscriber to this newsletter, you will get regular, infrequent, bite-sized tips that you can use to protect your customers and improve security for yourselves. Best of all, for businesses without a security budget, these tips are free!
Who can use these tips?
These tips are written with non-technical folks in mind, so anyone can use them to get started. When you're ready to level-up, and get compliant with regulations fast, head over to majorcord.com for actionable best practices designed for different levels of technical familiarity.
What if I'm totally covered on security and privacy?
When you've got what you need and no longer get value from reading these posts, hit unsubscribe (there is a button for this at the bottom of the email) and move on to something more relevant to your life. We won't be offended when you say thank you and goodbye.

What exactly can we help with?
Here's what you can expect:
- Privacy tips. Because your customers now expect you to protect the information they give you.
- Security tips. Because, believe it or not, there are people out there who love it when small businesses leave their doors unlocked. And yes, you have more "doors" than you might expect.
- Short emails. Never more than a 5 minute read. I’ve been writing into the stream for 13 years, and I haven’t had this much fun doing it. This newsletter is finite (always less than 600 words). It has edges. You can finish it.
- Swear words. There aren't many (sadly, I'm no Mark Manson), but consider this a fair warning. I don't enjoy censoring myself, and I've yet to meet a person who doesn't swear when I get to know them better.
But what is Majorcord?
I'd love to go into this - the origin story of this business, our values, and our mission.
But I committed to not publish a newsletter longer than 600 words. So, we'll get into that another day ;-)
(If you're reading this newsletter from our Archives, then we've likely already published our mission in a subsequent newsletter. So, much like time travel, you can fast-forward - go and check!)
Wherever and whenever you’re reading this, I hope our future posts help you live your best working life 💛
