Hello again, from Reproof
Hi. Hey. Hello there!
It’s been a while.
It all started with a dream of better writing tools. A realization that writing apps still act like paper, with linear text and comments on the side, when they could be so much more. A spark of an idea of how, perhaps, software could help humans write more creatively, that maybe it’s not AI we need but more ways to experiment with our writing and find the best ways to word our ideas.
Write. Rewrite. Revise.
Reproof.
Over the past couple of years, we’ve been building—and, true to our name, rebuilding—Reproof. Building it into the writing app we want to use.
We rebuilt the editor multiple times to make sure it’s reliable. Built in features we’d originally planned to hold for later—real-time collaboration, among others—to make it as useful as possible. And along the way, while bootstrapping Reproof into reality, I started a writing agency for software firms, Pith and Pip, opening yet another window into the challenges teams face in writing, editing, and publishing creative work.
We went quiet here, as we were building and writing elsewhere. Yet Reproof was never far from our thoughts.
The more we’ve written for others, tested other apps, talked to writers and editors about the tools they use, the more we’ve wanted to bring Reproof to life.
I set a goal, when we first started, of a thousand people on our beta list. If we had a thousand people waiting to try Reproof when it launched, I thought, then surely we’d have a fighting chance. That happened, thanks to you—and we can’t wait for you to try what we’ve built.
So we’re back.
We’re closer to shipping now. Much closer. Enough, we think, that you can try Reproof in July. Maybe sooner—and if you want to be one of the first to try it, reply and let us know. We’d love to send you one of our first beta invites.
In the meantime, if you happen to be attending the Information Architecture Conference in Seattle or Write the Docs in Portland this month, let me know—I’ll be there, and would love to say hi and, perhaps, show you what we’ve built so far.
Ok. Back to building. Thank you for being here. Expect to start getting Reproof emails again—and here’s to facing fears, and shipping.
