Theme: Practical Prints and Hybrid Materials
September Recap
September featured several new designs, all free to download and print:
- Custom Toy Sword, lightweight and customizable.
- MagStow Scrap Bin, a catch-all for screws, parts, or pocket clutter.
- Magnetic Shelf, compact storage that mounts where you need it.
- MagStow Square Canister, modular storage for everyday use.
- Minimalist Floss Bobbin, a community-inspired design that optimized a simple everyday object for 3D printing.
October Focus
This month continues the MagStow series and experiments with TPU plus PLA hybrid designs. A request for modular ZipLock bag storage is also in development, with prototypes exploring dovetail joints and magnet options.
Community Printer Program
A new initiative is taking shape: the Community Printer Program. The idea is to make it easier for makers to print Lunar Prototypes designs for their local communities. Details will follow soon.
Industry Watch
- Advances in multi-material printing are accelerating, from dissolvable support resins to new high-throughput nozzles.
- Bambu Lab released LAN-based farm management software, giving small farms and schools more control without relying on the cloud.
- Some big brands are shifting away from consumer FDM printers, a reminder to consider long-term support when choosing hardware.
The direction is clear: more flexibility, more control, and less waste — the same goals behind Lunar Prototypes designs.
