Issue 16: Shorter
Welcome to the sixtheenth issue of Everything Is Made Up

Hi there! Back so soon?
This is the sixteenth issue of my newsletter and it is dedicated to Wayne Shorter. As always, I’ll talk about news (personal and general), what I’ve been watching, listening to, reading, and a little something extra at the end.
And if you have any content suggestions or questions, let me know!
Okay, enough vacillating. Let’s get it started.
News
In personal news, I’m not doing that great. I won’t go into it in great detail but it’s been a struggle. Can someone just wash my brain out and put it back in? Maybe use a non-scratch sponge too so I don’t lose any neural connections.
In general news, the world remains on fire. Palestine is still not free, the US is hot garbage and getting worse by the day. Marginalised groups everywhere are struggling to survive, rich white men are brute forcing AI tech into everything and people just shrug and say “gotta embrace it! You don’t want to get LEFT BEHIND!” I could sure use some hope right now rather than people on the left just shouting “VOTE!”, “ORGANISE!”, and “RESIST!” I hate it here, can you tell?
What I’ve been watching
Onto nicer things and I’ve watched 3 movies since the last newsletter:
The Book of Eli - yep, another Denzel film. That man can wield a weapon! Kinda disappointed by the ending but it was cool enough.
Layer Cake - I really enjoyed this. Sleek, interesting, funny, violent but not gory. It was like a Wicked-esque James Bond prequel. Daniel Craig was awesome.
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift - I think this is the only F&F movie I’ve seen all the way through and it is therefore my favourite. This was the first time I’ve seen it since it came out and it was lots of fun and I enjoyed the aesthetics.
YouTube wise, it’s been Pokémon videos, Federer videos, and videos about the Lenovo Legion Go (tl;dr - I’m planning on getting one!)
What I’ve been listening to
Sadly, one of my all-time favourite artists, Roberta Flack, passed away last week so I’ve been listening to some of her back catalogue. I wrote about her in 2018 and how much her music meant to me as a child. RIP 🕊️
I’ve also been listening to Patti Austin, the Pokémon Legends: Arceus soundtrack, and Zero 7.
What I’ve been reading
Still not picked up a book yet this year. Maybe next time.
Something that interested me
From Playrface:
TIL: there are London Irish, London Scottish, and London Welsh rugby teams (although I also found out that the original London Welsh had to fold but the name lives on via an amateur team). Oh, and London Cornish, London French, and London New Zealand! London South Africa were also a club but dissolved in 2014.
Well, I’m gonna make like a cannonball and run. Thanks for reading and join me next time for more of the same. Any comments or suggestions, get in touch! And if you'd like to help out with my content creation endeavours, check out my Patreon.
