The View from the Query Trenches
Hiiii friends!
Some of you are new, so forgive me if you already know about Wound Up—I’m going to briefly introduce it. Wound Up is a cozy queer yarn shop romance featuring protagonists in their 40s falling in love and fighting for joy.
Noah Wakefield is a high-strung asexual yarn shop owner in the small river city of Cape Girardeau, Missouri. When he gets a zoning violation notice from his hateful new neighbors, he must team up with frustrating, flirty trans rival yarn shop owner Benjamin Tasch to pull off the Southeast Missouri Fall Yarn Crawl and prove that the fiber arts community is a boon to their city.
Okay SO. The view from the query trenches is looking pretty grim. Are readers vibing with a queer, cozy yarn shop romance featuring protagonists in their 40s? SO MUCH. Are agents vibing with it? Absolutely not. But I am not giving up. I WILL get this story out into the world, somehow, some way. Come indie pub or self pub or secret third thing (which I AM in the very early stages of working on, but I cannot share deets yet.)
I have started a discord server for updates on Wound Up, in whatever form it eventually gets yeeted (yote?) into the world. Please feel free to join the party! I will be posting memes, snippets, and news there. https://discord.gg/R2B8hgqZFe
One way or another, I’ll be getting my yarn shop fellas out there. Thanks for sticking with me!
Also, another order of business: my very first comment on a Wound Up promotional post was “does it have spice? (eyes emoji)” and while that is so valid, just a friendly reminder that nothing I write will ever have spice, not because spice is bad or wrong or because purity culture but because I am a specific flavor of ace that Does Not Like That, and so are my characters. I’ve spent my whole life reading books catering to the spice lovers. I will never advocate for LESS spicy books. But I WILL advocate for a variety of spice levels, including no spice at all.
Everyone deserves to be seen.

For those of you who don’t know, I have two books already out:
Ace of Hearts (2022) from NineStar Press, about an asexual librarian who marries her childhood bestie so he can get free tuition at the college where she works.
The Endless Sea Between Us (2023) from NineStar Press, a sapphic romantasy about a tenacious mermaid and the grouchy witch who loves her, and also about taking out predatory authority figures who think being a “nice guy” entitles them to affection and attention.
I also have a short story called You, Me and the Sea, about an aroace fisherwoman and her lifelong platonic bond with an aroallo siren, that will be published in Common Bonds 3, A Speculative Aromantic Anthology. You can order your copy now. It will print and ship in November 2026. I’m so, so excited about it!
