Anthology Announcement

Hiiii friends!

Things are Happening, for the first time in a long time, for me. Several years ago I wrote a short story about a nonbinary aroallo siren who eats humans, and the one aroace human woman they refuse to eat. I thought, “what if a human was immune to sirens’ illusory, predatory magic because she didn’t experience the attraction they rely on to hunt their prey? What if the siren felt seen for the first time in their life, and decided come hell or high water that they would protect the one human who really SAW them?”

A black and white sketch of a feral-looking siren with dark wavy hair and razor sharp teeth and a somber looking human woman with a braid.
Marlowe & Masie

This was a story of my heart, and when the opportunity to submit for Common Bonds came up, I shot my shot thinking I didn’t have a chance. But lo and behold! Turns out of you take a risk, sometimes you can reap the reward. I was chosen in September, and I’ve been sitting on this ever since.

If this story sounds like your jam, please consider signing up for updates to the Kickstarter, which will launch during Pride.

Other updates:

Yesterday was International Asexuality Day. I am asexual! Be aware! Almost all of my point of view characters are on the asexual spectrum somewhere, too.

Ace of Hearts by Lucy Mason open to a page that's annotated. The line "everything is about sex, to everybody but me" is highlighted. A white person's hand rests on the page, with a black asexual pride ring on their middle finger.

There’s an Ace of Hearts giveaway going on for the first 25 applicants! If you want art prints of Hesper and Felix, bookmarks (including one with an Ace of Hearts playlist!), and a printed copy of a five-years-later post-epilogue story I wrote, email a copy of your purchase receipt OR LIBRARY CHECKOUT SLIP (we support libraries in this house, because libraries support authors and are great equalizers!) along with the name and address you’d like the goodies mailed to to lucymason217@gmail.com. This is valid until May 15th OR I run out of supplies, whichever comes first, so go ahead and enter for the best chance to get the goods!

A blue and purple toned image of an annotated copy of Ace of Hearts, with a bookmark, and a white person's hand resting on the book. There are fairy lights in the background.

Wound Up, my adult asexual Achillean yarn shop romance, is coming along! Songs I’m listening to on repeat while I draft: Just Say Yes by Snow Patrol, Happy by MARINA, All This and Heaven Too by Florence and the Machine, and a slew of Mitski. It has passed 13k words, and I am shooting for 70k minimum, 80k if I can. I want y’all to know and love Noah and Ben and Cordie and Beth as much as I do. I’d like to have a first draft finished by the end of summer.

I’m also starting on edits for my aroace contemporary short story, Emergency Contact, this month. Keep an eye on this space for updates. I’ll be submitting it places later this year.
