Pocket Mail: October & November Issue 🎃

Pocket Mail Newsletter

Happy Winter everyone!! We’re not at the solstice yet of course, but snow has already come (and in Steph’s case, rain)! How can fall be over already? We’ve been so busy for the past month that we weren’t able to write an October newsletter, so we’re writing a joint October/November issue just to catch up a bit. We have some exciting news and some updates on Knapsack 2!

For everyone who already backed the Kickstarter, you’ve probably seen that our book delivery has been delayed due to typhoon season in Hong Kong (and countries along the Pacific at large). Our copies of Knapsack 2 have been officially shipped, but due to backups at the port we’re expecting our books to come later than we previously estimated, and our new fulfillment estimate for our backers is January. We’re sorry again for the delay and we really appreciate everyone’s patience!

our new website!!!

Some super exciting news is that we have a NEW WEBSITE! Finally, after 5 years of using the same iteration we’ve had since 2019, we have a brand new website and layout by the amazing Nic Prothero! We are so happy with how it looks, we think its super cute and we have a new shop and everything! It’s still under a tiny bit of construction but please do take a look and poke around! Check it out and leave a note in our guestbook if you want 🤍

Since we don’t live close enough to hang out in person at the moment, Steph has been continuing to stream Fire Emblem: 3 Houses (Sara played back in 2019 and is joyfully enjoying the replay…) Guess who our favorite are 😳 (if you guess right you get a secret prize)… If anyone is asking, Steph is playing the Blue Lions route first! We watched a lot of Halloween movies and documentaries for the season, especially a lot of silly History Channel documentaries. We loved this funny Robert the Doll documentary. We also watched a nearly-forgotten Nickelodeon movie called Don’t Think About It, does anyone remember it??? It was actually pretty good, Emily Osment really sold us on the goth kid act (also we were genuinely unnerved by this movie’s monster).

she was really giving 2000s weird kid!!!! we loved it

We also played a game called Ghost Town Pumpkin Festival so we could simulate the feeling of celebrating Halloween together in person, like we usually do every year! This year we unfortunately couldn’t have a physical celebration, so we explored this little Ghost Town instead. It was a super sweet game! You could take photos and carve pumpkins!

this photo of sara has a very unsuspecting energy…

We hope everyone had a great Halloween! 🎃 November has been very busy for us so we haven’t been able to call or stream very much, but we’ll keep you updated on our Fire Emblem journey…

Here’s me as a tomato on Halloween 🙂

I’m holding this roasted pumpkin I made for a tiny get-together. It’s apparently a new varietal of pumpkin called Koginut! I thought it looked very cute and fantasy so I wanted to try it… I filled it with a wild rice stir fry for a homey, fantasy-type Halloween meal :-D

The past month and a half have been spent crunching on a deadline for me, so I’ve had to make some time away from my desk to use my hands and feel more like a human. I’ve been doing a lot of cooking as always! But also recently have experimented with natural dyeing! Here’s some fabrics with tea and with cutch- I’ve been making little coasters and drawstring bags with them for gifts, slowly but surely.

Also went on a little trip to Upstate NY with a few friends, went apple picking, saw a Monet exhibition (it was really great…) and wood-turned this vase ^_^ I love working with wood so much, once I finish this job and move in the new year, I’m excited to work with it more..!!

It’s officially rainy season here! I’m soaking it all up, like a fish. I feel like October always passes way too quickly. Halloween is my favorite holiday, and this year has been especially strange because October is very warm here in Hawaii, but there’s always still signs of the Halloween spirit in the air! Our neighborhood was full of kids on Halloween, so we had a lot of fun giving out candy and seeing everyone’s decorations. We also did a lot of hiking this past month which has been super nice, and I went snorkeling for the first time! We saw some coronet fish, I love them because they look like little noodles.

a coronet fish! they’re so silly and long…

On Thursdays I’ve been going to The Garrison’s weekly BIPOC sangha. If you’re interested in meditation and you’re looking for a space to participate, it’s free for anyone who self identifies as black, indigenous, or a person of color.

I also finally made a new website for myself! I’ve been wanting to make a new website that represents my personality a little bit better for a while, it really stressed me out and then it became kind of fun to edit all the html and css. It’s very rudimentary, but it’s all I need!

That’s all for now, see you next month! We know times are hard, and we’re sending so much love. We hope that the winter snow brings childlike wonder into your life the way it does in ours!

Love,

Sara, Steph, & Pocket
