Pocket Mail: July Issue! 🖌️

Pocket Mail Newsletter

Hi everyone!

Happy July! It’s been super hot and/or rainy over here, we hope everyone’s staying cool! It’s ice cream weather… Beach episode weather, even. 🏖️ Stay hydrated!

LPP News

Pretty much all of Basket has been shipped out! The France group order has been sent over to Marie, so those who are part of the order should be getting those packages soon! We’re so happy to see people receive their copies! If you haven’t gotten a copy yet, we’ve also listed it on our website here! Please enjoy this book, it’s extremely close to our hearts <3

Kitchen Conversion Magnet!

We’re working on putting the finishing touches to the book file for Knapsack Mag Vol 2, and we’re almost done!! It’s taken a little longer than we set out as we piled our projects pretty high this year, but the finish line is so near! We’ll be sending the digibook out in the next few weeks. We also received some rewards, including the kitchen magnets and stickers! Aren’t they so cute?

After organizing two Kickstarter campaigns back to back and tabling at two shows (thank you everyone who stopped by at TCAF and CAKE!), we’re taking a little vacation from press stuff this month. We’re feeling pretty burnt out and in need of some rest, so we want to take some time to come back to Lucky Pocket with fresh eyes. We’ve also got a lot of stuff happening in our own personal lives, so we’re focusing on those things this summer! We’ll be back after a wild summer adventure! 🐢 In the mean time, you can catch us at Sunny Day market in NYC (it’s not really a full break then, huh….)

This month started with TCAF, and then we went down to Montreal for Steph’s 28th birthday! We drove up to Canada through the Finger Lakes region and this trip has got to be our breaking record for most wildlife spotted, out of the good 6 times we’ve driven to and from Canada. We saw a snapping turtle on the side of the road! Toronto NEVER disappoints with its food, so we were happy to eat our days away before driving over to Montreal! The shining star of this trip was Maha’s Cafe in Leslieville, they serve Egyptian brunch! It was literally so freaking good we didn’t even care we got rained on, our stomachs are grumbling thinking about it. The date grilled cheese sandwich and hummus of our dreams…

Montreal is super pretty and the weather was nice and cool, with a beautiful summer storm bisecting our day and making everything shine in the sun. A couple of highlights were the Camellia Sinensis tearoom: we were able to try 3 different flights of tea comparing each of the teas to each other. Our favorite was definitely the green tea, an Anji Bai Cha from this year’s harvest! After lunch, we grabbed ice cream at Iconoglace, which was SOOOO delicious and somehow dairy free! We got some soft serve that was pomegranate and vanilla. The entire menu was HUGE and only in French, so we were all floundering on what flavors to get or what was even available, lol. It didn’t even matter because it was all DELICIOUS, we’d highly recommend!

Iconoglace!

We drove home the same night and spent Steph’s birthday day drinking tea at a park and biking a trail at Loantaka State Park in NJ, which has a really nice paved trail for people to bike around, there’s even bikes you can rent! Another really sweet day. Happy 28th, Steph!!

What is happening here?

Steph’s Corner 🐟

Hi everyone, it’s Steph! June was full of lots of celebration for my 28th birthday, I feel so lucky and loved. My birthday day was the first time I ever biked on a trail! I was so scared! I want to challenge myself to do lots of new things this year. A week later we threw a medieval themed birthday party picnic in Prospect Park and Sara and Olioli surprised me with a beautiful cake! It was strawberry flavored, my favorite!

I’m always super happy to see my friends, especially because life is so busy and it’s hard to make time. I love everyone so much!! It was especially important this time because I wanted to see everyone before I move at the end of July. The latter half of June was mostly spent packing and going to the pottery studio, and not much else! My partner and I are moving back in with his family in Hawaii, so it will be a little while, I think, until I see all my friends on the east coast again! My entire adult life has been on the east coast, and I’m feeling really bittersweet and excited to relax for a moment and gather my bearings.

Sara’s Corner 🐌

Hi guys, it’s Sara :-) Hope you’re all staying sweet and sane out there! June has been a pretty wild month for me in my personal life; a lot of changes, revelations, pivots and points of growth. I’ve started biking after a foot injury made my morning runs impossible, and trying to stay outside as much as possible. I feel fully defrosted and full of energy! I did a lot of searching this month for a farmhand position somewhere, and ended up being spontaneously offered a really amazing part time position at a natural (magical!) farm for the start of July. I just moved to Rhode Island for the summer to be commutable, but I’m back in NYC sometimes too. Trying to balance it all at the moment, so check back in next month to see how its going 🥕

Thank you so much for reaching the end of our newsletter! It means so much to us that you would read about us and our lives and what we do, so thank you! We’ll be here working hard and preparing for some big changes coming up; we’re dreaming about drinking tea, watching the clouds, and playing video games together no matter the distance (as always). We’ll see you soon! Take care and have a sweet rest of your month. Love you! ^_^

Love,

Sara, Steph, & Pocket

Eating / Drinking:

Sara: So many fresh veggies. Have you ever tried freshly picked asparagus? So sweet! Also, putting some shiso leaves in my water bottle has been a refreshing revelation. Most of the time, all I'm craving is a crisp lettuce or cabbage leaf...

Steph: Spring potatoes (so creamy) and frying up spring garlic to toss on everything! Not much cooking is going on, but I'm still enjoying the harvest as much as I can! Lately I've been craving ice cream alll the time! I love the chai masala flavor at Malai in Brooklyn.

Watching / Reading / Playing / Listening to:

Sara: Read and finished One Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka; it's been incomparably influential to me this month. Pretty far into Jane Eyre for my classics craving... I love her.

Steph: Hikaru no Go (really really enjoying ancient man and elementary school kid duo lmao) & Group Living & Other Recipes by Lola Milholland
