Tuesday January 13. Beginner Sewing Boot Camp with Megan Avery
A fun and hands-on 4-week project based sewing class teaching the fundamentals of sewing. We'll sew a messenger bag and a reversible apron.
Saturday January 17. Contour Line: Drawing’s First Language with Mercedes Teixido
Using a variety of materials and approaches we will slow down our observation to connect with an object using line. To draw a line on a surface is to make a presence. Process itself will be play a role in making a drawing. This class is a solid introduction to drawing as both a representational expression and an abstract language.
Saturday January 31. 2D Looking Like 3D: Drawing and its Systems of Depth and Perspective with Mercedes Teixido
Many drawing traditions use the illusion of depth as a creative or a diagrammatic tool. This workshop will introduce a few distinct approaches, each with their unique history. Think about overlapping forms, quilts with patterns of illusion and paintings that use linear perspective to mimic the way that our vision experiences space. This fast pace class will use a variety of materials and techniques to encourage experimentation with the aim of enriching the artists toolbox towards the invention of one’s own technique.
Saturday February 7. Play and Improvisation: Drawing as Process with Mercedes Teixido
Surrealist drawing engages drawing as an event. Fluxus used the idea of a prompt to activate the making of an art piece. Collaboration and the disruption of strict representation allow for all kinds of impulses to arise and land on the paper. This workshop is an invitation to enter the fluxus and surrealist mindset through historic exercises and even our own invented games. Be prepared for your making to outpace your thinking as we let ourselves be guided by unexpected and unnamable sources.
Stay warm!
