Standing with Tumbler Ridge
Good evening, Nelson families.
We, like many of you, went to sleep last night shocked and deeply saddened by the news coming from Tumbler Ridge, BC. Not knowing what to say or if to say anything about the shooting to our kids. Not knowing how best to comfort them or to hold space for their (and our) questions and emotions.
We can feel helpless, despite wanting to help. In times of adversity and grief, it’s important for the community to come together in support, kindness, and vulnerability.
We would like to gather some personal messages of support from Nelson families to send to the Tumbler Ridge PAC. If you’d like to pass on your notes, please reply to this email and we’ll send them on in a single document.
The VSB has a page with multiple resources for how to manage mental health and navigating trauma and grief with children. And tomorrow, February 12, will be a provincial day of mourning.
Lastly, if you wish to donate to the families affected by the shooting, the PAC at Tumbler Ridge Secondary school has started a (verified) GoFundMe. The funds will be used to cover unexpected expenses, supporting daily needs, help with any ongoing recovery efforts, pay for funeral costs, pay for mental health supports, and more. Our PAC will be donating some discretionary funds on behalf of our school community, regardless.
From the Tumbler Ridge PAC: Direct transfers can now be made to the Lake View Credit Union. You can go in person to any of their branches or email transfer to: [email protected]
Hug your loved ones close, and have a lovely night.
