Recap: Digital Literacy Talk

Good morning Nelson families!

A few weeks ago we had the chance to chat with Jessy Wollen from Shift Education about digital literacy and raising tech savvy kids. I know that some of you were unable to join us that evening, so please find below some notes from the talk.

Have a great day!

-Your PAC exec

Hello Lord Nelson community,

It was a pleasure to present to many parents and caregivers last week.

We had an opportunity to discuss shared values around technology and how to reboot some of our tech practices in the home to realign our values. In other words, what tech habits at home are working for you and what tech habits need a reboot to better suit your values?

Many shared values came up in the group such as connection as a family.

Here are some talking points from the parent night:

  1. Where does technology support your family?

  2. What tech rules work in your home?

  3. How do you feel when the person you're with is constantly on their phone?

  4. How do you envision tech in your home in 2-3 years from now?

Below is an image of the conversations we had around these talking points on a shared bulletin board called PADLET, or you can click here to add more questions or comments!

Ground Rules: Group chat

We worked to suspend our judgement in the group so parents and caregivers felt and will feel comfortable to share. This is an anonymous space, you can not see what people post, but it is only for Lord Nelson parents and caregivers, and is to offer a space to learn from each other and deepen the dialogue on how we support each other as tech time pushes into our homes and kids lives. Take care and keep in touch if you have any questions.

-Jessy Wollen
