Get Involved: Spring Fair, Sports Day, etc
Good morning Nelson families,
We need the parent community to get involved and that can be as little as 10 minutes of volunteer time. We realize that everyone’s time is valuable, so we’re providing a list of ways you can get involved no matter what your schedule looks like! You can volunteer for just one event or come to one PAC meeting and it doesn’t mean that you’re obligated to do it again. Think about how many hours you want to put into the school community each year while you check out the list of things that only happen when we have volunteers to run them:
PAC meetings (1.5hrs): Come and give your feedback on all the things the PAC does. You can come to just one meeting, you don’t create any obligations for yourself by checking one out. Our next meeting is Wednesday May 14, 6:30-8pm!
Sports Day, Friday May 16 (10min): We provide snacks for all the kids. All We need two things: 1) a person to do a Costco trip to get the snacks (you’ll naturally be reimbursed), and 2) we need several adults to sort the snacks into bins for each class (~10min)
Spring Fair, Friday June 20 (1-4hrs): Help with the concession or run a game stand. Help with setup or takedown. There are a variety of ways you can get involved. We are specifically looking for the following volunteers:
Jolly Jar volunteers (don’t know what that is? Click here to find out!)
Bake Sale Volunteers
Concession
Activity supervision
Hot lunch (30-40 minutes): Help distribute hot lunches and maybe say hi to your child(ren)! Also- please return any fork(s) you may have at home that are engraved with PAC!
Garden club (variable): Spend a sunny afternoon improving our gardens or helping with a mural. The Garden Club has a variety of projects and ways for people to get involved.
Pancake day (1.5 - 6hrs): Come make pancakes for students! This long standing, beloved Nelson tradition recently returned and needs real humans to keep running.
Movie Night (3hrs): Run the projector or help out at the concession stand. Our group of parents that consistently run this event are all moving on this year, and we have one person willing to take on organizing, but they will need help, otherwise movie night will stop happening.

If you have more than a couple hours, consider coming to PAC meetings, regularly or occasionally, and help shape what we do. Did you know that the PAC payed for the new school play grounds? That the PAC provides a Hot Lunch Subsidy for those with financial need? Did you know that the gardens are largely the product of our Garden Club? We subsidize field trips and help teachers with resources that the school doesn’t provide. Many of the guest speakers that your children see are paid for by the PAC. Help us continue and expand this work!
Thank you for reading and for your time, and have a great week!
