A Personal Note from Emily, co-chair

Hi families!

My kid, Ida, will be going to a different school in September; we’re sad to leave Nelson behind but excited for the new opportunity. And so, according to PAC rules, I must step down as co-chair of the Nelson PAC in June.

Because we started school during the pandemic in 2020, it was a really challenging time to meet other parents! I decided to attend some PAC meetings and later joined the executive. It was one of the best decisions that I’ve made in recent years: I have met so many wonderful folks who all help make the Nelson community special.

Aside from having made fantastic (and, I hope, lifelong) friends, I have had the chance to feel like I am part of something larger than myself. Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to model the spirit of volunteerism for my kid, and shown them that contributing to your community is both important and rewarding.

If this seems like something that calls to you, I urge you to consider taking on the role of co-chair. When I first thought about joining, I had a lot of questions! I met with Caitlin and Taryn (the then co-chairs) for coffee so we could chat and figure out if the role would fit with my life. I would be delighted to return the favour and to meet and chat about being co-chair and what it entails, so please feel free to reach-out. Having coffee doesn’t mean that you’ve automatically volunteered yourself!

Lastly, to all the folks that I’ve worked with on the PAC in the last few years (Marlene, Taryn, Tegan, Mike, Christine, Katherine, Julie, Megan, Rachelle, Dillon, to name just a few), as well as to the staff at Nelson, thank you for being so awesome, and keep up the stellar work!

Emily

PS- I will absolutely be back for some of those delicious apples in the autumn!!
