[Reuters pitch] smartwatches

Dear Subscriber, here's another request to the limited list of forward-thinking folk for a piece I'm working on. Don't feel you have to reply if it's not up your street. I'm hoping to put something together in the next few days.
I'd be interested in hearing from experts or those in the industry about the potential for smartwatches beyond those we've already seen -- i.e., more than just a compressed mobile device or fancy PDA on the wrist. The kinds of questions I'm asking are:
- I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who thinks they can answer any or all of the above. If you think you, your company or your client might be able to help, or have an interesting take on it, I'd love to hear from you.
- What role can these devices play and what are the obstacles to seeing them gain a mass market?
- What is out there already that is not well known and worth checking out?
- What components, manufacturing processes and ecosystems need to be in place to make these devices happen and what players are best positioned to take advantage of this?
I'm primarily interested in looking ahead and trying to envisage how disruptive these devices -- wearable devices, not exclusively wrist-bound ones -- might be and what the market might look like. But I'd also welcome those who might be able to point out the technical aspects, the likely supply chain impact/beneficiaries/losers. The more specific and substantiated the comments, the better.
Best, Jeremy
