“The internet exists for publishing, after all”

Introducing a blog series about blogs
Many smart people are writing many good things about the implosion of digital media, and I thank them for their service. This newsletter series is not about that. It is about something happening in spite of, because of, and parallel to that: cool people doing cool stuff in online publishing.
In this series, I’ll share insights from writers, editors, and publishers working across the digital (written) content ecosystem. My hope is to speak to writers, editors, and publishers of solo newsletters, collectively owned blogs, non-profit news sites, and beyond.
“The internet exists for publishing, after all.” That’s John Shankman, founder of Hashtag Labs and former publisher of the Awl Network. (I am the co-founder, with Mike Dang, of the Billfold, which was part of the Awl Network.) He helps publishers big and small make money with smarter ad tech. I’m sharing this quote because it is the north star of this series. Blogs are the past, present, and future of the internet—the internet exists for publishing, after all!
Let’s go read some blogs.
