Sutton Literary Festival 12-13 October 2024

Southwark Pensioners' Centre Local History Group

Dear Members,

Cathy Deplessis, Director of Southwark Pensioners’ Centre, has received the message below from author Jacqueline Crooks with the programme for Sutton Literary Festival on 12-13 October. Some of you may remember that Jacqueline spoke at our very first Zoom early in the pandemic about the book of memories she had written with members of Golden Oldies. Some recalled living on sugar plantations in the Caribbean. Since then her first novel, “Fire Rush”, was nominated for the 2023 Women’s Prize for Fiction.

Hi Cathy

I hope you’re having a good week.

This is the link to Sutton Literary Festival which I’ve been helping to develop and coordinate for one of my clients: Sutton Literary Festival 2024 - Place At My Table<https://www.placeatmytable.co.uk/sutton-literary-festival-2024/>

The
event takes place in beautiful Carshalton Village. It is funded by Arts Council England and Sutton Council are also supporting the event and having given us some beautiful venues. Honeywood Museum, a grade II listed building. We have also hired Sutton Ecology Centre which is next door and has beautiful wild trails, sensory gardens, and other lovely features for a gentle walk. Honeywood Museum has a lovely outdoor café overlooking Carshalton Ponds and its wildlife.

The festival has some awarding winning authors including Louise Minchin from BBC Breakfast TV who I’m sure a lot of your users will recognise.

Tickets are free. The brochures are going out to Sutton libraries today so we imagine a lot of events will get booked up.

Would you like to book some tickets for a group event for your users? If so, I can let you book around 20-30, possibly more.

Please let me know as soon as you can and I can arrange this.

Jacqueline
